Body and Soul Yoga

Body and Soul Yoga is a Christian based yoga class, held on Wednesdays 9-10 am (Chapel Meeting Room). We become more spiritually connected through yoga by calming our minds and quieting ourselves to the point that we can tune out the world’s frequency and tune into God’s frequency.

We begin each class with a prayer, a scripture in which we meditate on throughout the class, followed by emphasizing breath work and mindfulness, while practicing various yoga postures. Variations to postures are explained so participants of all skill levels may comfortably enjoy the benefits of this time tested health practice. So, it makes no difference if you are a seasoned yogi or a first-timer, if you’re four or eighty-four, in perfect shape or wanting to change, Body and Soul Yoga is what you are looking for. “Be still and know that I am God” ~ Psalms 46:10

Open to all levels; bring a mat and towel. $7 per class.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a low impact exercise; its slow gentle movements improve circulation, breathing and balance, and may ease chronic disease. Instructors Hilmar and Marlene Fuchs teach this class Fridays at 1 pm. $28 per 4 week session; contact Lezley Saari.

Tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren’t in top shape or the best of health.

In this low-impact, slow-motion exercise, you go without pausing through a series of motions named for animal actions — for example, “white crane spreads its wings” — or martial arts moves, such as “box both ears.” As you move, you breathe deeply and naturally, focusing your attention — as in some kinds of meditation — on your bodily sensations. Tai chi differs from other types of exercise in several respects. The movements are usually circular and never forced, the muscles are relaxed rather than tensed, the joints are not fully extended or bent, and connective tissues are not stretched. Tai chi can be easily adapted for anyone, from the most fit to people confined to wheelchairs or recovering from surgery.
