Season of Caring

By November 4, 2020 November 13th, 2020 Announcements, Missions and Outreach, Service Events

This is the fourth year of our “Season of Caring” – a way of showing our thankfulness for God’s blessings in our lives.

This year’s efforts focus on feeding the hungry and making Christmas brighter for children and families.

We are packing non-perishable meals for families in our community November 15-22.

Help us meet our goal of packing 50,000 meals by signing up for shifts to pack meals – by yourself, with your family, with your Bible study, or your community group! You can volunteer with others, or  just with your small group. (All volunteers will wear masks and follow COVID precautions.)

Sign Up to Pack Meals

You can also make a financial contribution to purchase the meal supplies.

Use the “Make a Contribution” button below.

  • If you have an online giving account, log in to your account, and then click “Add Transaction.”
  • Enter your contribution amount next to “MISS Des” and then type “Meal Packing Event” in the box next to it.

We are also supporting multiple local mission partners through the Season of Caring:

  • providing toys for children and gift cards for teens and women receiving services through Abuse Counseling and Treatment (ACT)
  • providing toys for children and gift cards for teens in the Tice community
  • providing toys for children and gift cards for young mothers at Our Mother’s Home
  • providing toys for children and gift cards for trafficked and exploited women through Into the Jordan
  • providing gift cards for Dunbar High School Girls’ Basketball Team
  • providing gift cards for residents of Path2Freedom‘s Magnolia House

The trees in the Sanctuary lobby have angel and star ornaments with the ages and genders of children, or with gift card suggestions. Pick up an ornament, shop for the child or the item on the tag, and return your NEW items, UNWRAPPED or in GIFT BAGS with the tag attached, by November 22.

  • Angels are for the toy drive for children (baby to age 12) at A.C.T., Our Mother’s Home and Into The Jordan, and gift cards for teens at ACT, Magnolia House, Into The Jordan, and Dunbar High School Girls’ Basketball team.  The angels also reflect 80 gift cards for children at Tice UMC in lieu of toys this year due to COVID preventing their annual Christmas Party.  In addition, we have angels for baby clothes and books for different age groups for ACT, Into The Jordan and Our Mother’s Home. Need ideas for buying toys? Here’s a list!
  • Stars are for gift cards for women and families at ACT, Into The Jordan and Our Mother’s Home.  The gift card options reflect the requests of our mission partners: gas cards, CVS and Walgreens for medications, Walmart, Target and Amazon for personal needs, food, and clothing; fast food restaurants; Publix; and Bath and Body Works for a treat.

There are a lot of different choices for everyone and we will be making Christmas brighter for 115 children/teens and 70 moms.

If you are in Fort Myers and can bring your toys or gift cards to the church in person, you can come by the church to pick up angels or stars, or you can pick a virtual angel or star from our list. Please do not mail gift cards.

You can also make a financial gift to support these mission partners. Use the “Make a Contribution” button below.
