Pastoral Transitions

As previously announced, Pastor Thom and Karen Shafer are retiring from their roles at Cypress Lake UMC, but Pastor Thom will remain District Superintendent of the Southwest District of Florida. Their last Sunday at Cypress Lake will be May 23; a drive-through goodbye is planned for 2 pm that afternoon.

Pastor Robert Bledsoe has been appointed to Trinity UMC in Bradenton beginning July 1; his last Sunday here will be June 20. You can honor Robert’s ministry here by dropping off notes of thanks or encouragement for Robert, Jessica, and little Hardin. You can mail your cards to the church office or drop them off any time between now and June 15.

We are delighted to say that Pastor Kayln Wiley will continue in her appointment as the Pastor of Family Ministries at Cypress Lake.

The Staff- Parish Relations Committee is excited to announce the appointment of Rev. Marcus Zillman II as the Senior Pastor of Cypress Lake UMC. Pastor Marcus’ first Sunday serving here will be July 4.

Rev. Zillman comes to us from First UMC of Boca Raton, where he has been serving for the last seven years. His diverse ministry experience includes local church settings in northwest, central and southeastern Florida. He also led the United Methodist campus ministry at University of Miami for six years. His ministry experience has also included work with new church starts and conference commitees on new church development. Pastor Marcus received his Bachelors in Business Administration from Florida Southern College, and his Masters of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Born in Illinois, he grew up in Naples, and is a fan of the Chicago Cubs. He and his wife Rebecca have two daughters, Marissa and Marilyn.

We ask that you pray for all of these pastors, as well as all the other pastors around our conference that will be moving – may their new congregations welcome their unique gifts, and may their ministries be fruitful!
